Postal Orders were Legal Tender between 3rd September 1939 & 20th December 1939

Some difficulty was experienced with the design of the new QEII postal order

This period of postal orders saw the peak of use at over 750 million per year

Machine postal orders first issued at Romford in 1951 and 1952 at :

Birmingham,  Newport,  Edinburgh  and  London (three offices)
